Letter from the President
Greetings Neighbors,
We need your help. We are amid a major drive to get our
Crime Watch program established, but we need your email
address and/or your phone number to contact you when we
have urgent information. Please email Pat, our Crime Watch
Coordinator, or call her at
774-0304 if you don’t use a computer. You may have a
block captain or other volunteer calling or knocking on your
door asking for this information. Please take a moment to
provide it. Pat can use all the help she can get, so if you can
share an hour a month, we can get the program established.
You’ll recall that a few years back we had a resident who
had sex offenders living in his home and he was accused of
dealing drugs. We made an all out effort to notify everyone
in the community. It was scary, but we notified every
resident, delivered a photo, provided the address, etc. We
eventually got them out of our neighborhood, but parents
and kids were warned until they were removed from our
community. We hope this won’t ever happen again, but our
motto is “be prepared.” Our direct communication with you
is essential for immediate notification.
We still have some residents who haven’t paid their PPOA
dues. The last thing we want to do is take our residents
to court. We know some folks have lost jobs, but we will
work with you if you’ll work with us. Please call Kirkpatrick
Management if you need a payment plan. Our budget is
based on everyone paying their annual dues.
Are you as glad as I am that spring is just around the corner?
It reminds me I need to get my lawn mower serviced; blades
sharpened and to be ready for the first green grass. We still
need 10 volunteers to help plant flowers at our entrances.
Contact Martha, our Volunteer Coordinator, or 770-7868 to volunteer for 3 hours
one Saturday. If we can get 10 volunteers, we can wrap it
up in one day.
Did you notice that we have six new trees planted at the
park? Please thank our volunteers, Deb Fornefeld, Joe
Stacey, Patrick & Martha Jamieson, who planted the trees.
It was a lot of hard work! This is a volunteer effort to keep
our park looking good and being well maintained. We try
to plant a tree for every tree that dies or must be cut down.
A dead tree was removed from the Rosewood entrance and
another between Plantana and Auburn Springs. This is
“Go Green” month and we’re doing our part by keeping our
neighborhood green.
Fishers is lobbying to be accepted as a test site for fiber
optic service. Wouldn’t it be great to have internet service
improved by 100 times the current speed? We submitted
a letter on behalf of the PPOA to Google to ask that Fishersbe selected. Wouldn’t cutting edge technology be a plus!
Have you looked at our website lately? Michelle Coleman
has been working and improving it. You’ll note the agenda
for board meetings is included. You can access our By-
Laws and Covenants online. Our events will be online with
each activity, date, time and location. Watch for the online
information when you see the signs posted at the entrances.
We’re including some news from Fishers… the expanded
efforts to eliminate drunk drivers was posted during March.
Check the website regularly to keep informed.
The annual garage sale planning is underway. Jan
Hammond is chairing the garage sale again this year.
Watch the Parkshore Post and www.Parkshorepoa.org for
the dates. This has become a successful event annually
and it offers a good opportunity to clean out closets and
garages…and make a little money, too. We also enjoy
meeting our neighbors and trading treasures.
At the March board meeting, we discussed several important
issues. We have a proposal to install an ornamental iron
fence around the pool. Our current chain link is deteriorating,
requires frequent costly repairs, and is damaged frequently
by kids climbing it. It led to the vandalism in years past.
A new fence would dramatically improve the appearance
of the pool area, improve security and discourage anyone
from illegally entering the pool facility.
We had two guest speakers at the board meeting. First,
Scott Rhodes is our agent for the PPOA insurance. He
discussed our liability, coverage and Director and Officer
coverage. There will be no rate increase this year and
we’ll maintain current coverage. Our second speaker was
Steve Earnhart, our PPOA attorney. Steve discussed our
collections process and new legislation. Fortunately, much
does not apply to us. Our covenants are serving us well.
We also addressed riprapping ponds. Muskrats and
erosion have been problems for years and every year the
board receives complaints. This is an expensive task, but
riprapping will help alleviate the erosion and the muskrat
problems. Geese don’t like riprap either, so we may reduce
the fertilizer they leave behind in our yards. We are getting
more bids and considering starting with one of the smaller
ponds with the worst problems first. It will be our test case.
We may still require some planting around the edges to
further prevent erosion. We’ve studied this problem for
years and it will take years to complete all nine ponds, but
it’s time to start.
We budgeted this year to install new entrance lights. The currents ones are inadequate, old and casings have
deteriorated. Once we select a reasonable bid, you’ll see
improved entrance lighting where bulbs won’t have to be
replaced constantly.
The Auburn Springs brick entrance requires immediate
attention. It needs to be tucked and old cracked material
removed and properly repaired and sealed. We are
awaiting one or two more bids before proceeding with that
repair. Hopefully it will be completed soon.
Maintenance of our buildings and grounds is essential to
keeping our neighborhood looking good and being inviting to
new home buyers. I’m sure if you decide to sell your home,
you will want prospective buyers to find our neighborhoods
attractive and well maintained. It helps keep our property
values up. First impressions are lasting impressions. We
only get one opportunity to make a good first impression.
Thanks to our board members and management company
for being forward looking and taking their time to delve into
the many issues confronting our PPOA. They give freely of
their time and talents. Please join me in thanking them for
their many endeavors.
Respectfully,
Maury Overton
2010 PPOA President
